BANTAY, Philippines—Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has taken a hard line on US President Donald Trump and vowed to retaliate if the US does not end its criticism of his war on drugs, according to a statement issued by his office on Monday.
In a statement on his official Facebook page, Duterte accused Trump of using “a personal vendetta against his own people” in his attacks on his predecessor, former President Benigno Aquino III.
“Trump has not only been an instrument of aggression and aggression is his own, but he has used a personal vendettas against his people in order to hurt his own cause,” the statement read.
Duterte has taken an aggressive stance toward Trump in recent weeks, using the phrase “Kill them all” on Twitter, calling the US President a “dictator” and warning that he would “pay dearly” for his actions.
In May, Duterte issued a pardon to a convicted drug pusher who was on the US terror watch list.
Duterte said he would pardon him if the former president pardoned him.
The Philippines is not on the terror list but has placed Duterte on its watch list for “high-level” crimes and the country is still on the list.
